Prayer
QUESTION: EVER TRIED PRAYING?
Here's some research that may stretch the mind (& spirit?) of some of you.
Intercessory prayer (praying for others) has been a common response to sickness for centuries, but it has received little scientific attention. The positive findings of previous research on intercessory prayer has yet to be reproduced.
The aim of this study was to determine whether remote, intercessory prayer for hospitalized, heart attack patients would reduce overall adverse events and length of stay. This was a "randomized, controlled, double-blind, prospective, parallel-group trial" - the "bee's knees" in medical research. The study was performed in a private, university-associated hospital. Nine hundred ninety (a large group for a study like this) patients who were newly admitted to the coronary (heart) care unit (CCU). Here's what happened: At the time of admission, patients were divided into two groups to receive remote, intercessory prayer ("prayer group") or not ("usual care group"). The first names of patients in the prayer group were given to a team of outside intercessors who prayed for them daily for 4 weeks. Patients were unaware that they were being prayed for, and the intercessors did not know and never met the patients. Compared with the usual care group, the prayer group required lower levels of coronary care. Lengths of CCU and hospital stays were not different. "CONCLUSIONS: Remote, intercessory prayer was associated with lower CCU course scores. This result suggests that prayer may be an effective adjunct to standard medical care."
What does this all mean? Two groups of patients presenting to a hospital with a heart attack: One group was prayed for by a group of people who did not know the patient, and the patient did not know they were being prayed for. The other group got the usual medical care. The patients who got the distant prayer did better than the others (had less problems, side effects and symptoms decreased more). Next time you know someone who is sick - might be worth a try!?
HERE'S A THOUGHT!!
"The most important things in life - Aren't things!"
OUR PHILOSOPHY:
3) "That normal function of your nervous system is dependent upon normal function of your spinal column."
- If there's too much tension in your spinal column, the tension in your spinal cord is increased. A bit like a guitar string that has been tightened too much and is playing out of tune. If there is too much stiffness in your spinal column this restricts the nourishment of your central nervous system by the spinal fluid movement. If the holes where the nerves escape your spinal column are being choked off by pinching and calcifying joints and discs, then the nerves become irritated and raw.
